Brief Summary of Purpose: The VMware Engineer/Administrator role is to provide strategic design and consultancy within Infrastructure services around VMware View/ESXi, leveraging both existing and proposed cloud services within the health plan or partners. The VMware Engineer will work to develop an integrated view of the IT architecture, using a repeatable approach, cohesive framework, and available industry standard technique. This is a hands on role that requires a long term view and the willingness to deploy and implement recommended solutions.

Strategy and Planning

• Establish, design and support an enterprise virtualization architecture that provides the required capacity and controls. Supports the long-term strategic goals for enterprise virtualization technologies within the Health Plan.
• Develop workload migration plan in conjunction with data owners and other technical resources

Acquisition and Deployment

• Work with end users and administrators to implement virtualization architectures that utilize industry best practices
• Deploy and configure technologies and corresponding software
• Implement virtualization technology policies, and procedures for disaster recovery implementing replication technologies for maximum systems uptime.
• Establish appropriate end-user access control levels

Operational Management

• Virtualization Infrastructure Experience utilizing VMware vSphere including upgrades and deployments
• Virtual Desktop Administration (VMware Horizon View) including upgrades and deployment
• VDI User Profile Management (VMware UEM or Persona Management)
• Virtual Application Installation, Support, Testing, and Troubleshooting
• Windows Troubleshooting (Active Directory, DNS, DFSR and GPOs)
• Enterprise Cloud Management and Administration (desired: vRealize Automation)
• Management of Enterprise Virtual Systems and Networks (desired: vRealize Operations Manager)
• Follow change control, incident response, and testing processes for modifications to virtualization technologies
• Anticipate, mitigate, identify, respond to, and resolve issues with virtualization, storage access, and data retrieval
• Research and make recommendations on virtualization products, services, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts
• Monitor, analyze, and predict trends for virtualization infrastructure performance, space allocation, and data growth to recommend enhancements to the IT storage team
• Create power cli scripts to support automation and administrative simplification
• Maintain virtual systems support and architecture documentation
• Manage and/or provide guidance to junior members of the team
• Works off hours to provide support for systems administration
• Provide clear, helpful and considerate instructions to end-users

Education

Minimum 4 year college degree or equivalent work experience

License/Certifications

VMware VCP6/7 - DTM preferred

• 6+ years of professional VMware system administration experience
• 3+ years of VMware VDI/View administration experience
• VDI User Profile Management
• VMware UEM
• Persona Management
• Transition, Architecture, Support and Rollout
• PowerCLI scripting experience
• Strong knowledge in cloud virtualization platforms like VMWare vSphere, VMWare vRealize Solutions
• RedHat Linux experience
