    Brief Summary of Purpose:

    The SQL Cloud Database Administrator role is to provide strategic design and consultancy within database services in on premise and in Cloud Technologies, leveraging both existing and proposed infrastructure within the health plan or partners. The SQL Cloud Database Administrator will work to develop an integrated view of the SQL architecture and other database technologies, using a repeatable approach, cohesive framework, and available industry standard technique. This is a hands on role that requires a long term view and the willingness to deploy and implement recommended solutions.

    Responsibilities

    Strategy and Planning

    • Establish, design and support an enterprise Cloud SQL architecture that provides the required capacity, control and supports the long-term strategic goals for enterprise database technologies within the Health Plan.
    • Establish database standards for operations, upgrades, migrations and onboarding new applications and/or clients
    • Develop workload migration plan in conjunction with data owners and other technical resources
    • Work with development teams in database design process and make suggestions/recommendations based on data manipulation needs of the application.

    Acquisition and Deployment

    • Work with end users and administrators to implement database architectures that utilize industry best practices
    • Deploy and configure technologies and corresponding software
    • Implement database technology policies, and procedures for maximum systems uptime.
    • Establish appropriate end-user access control levels

    Operational Management

    • Perform applications database administration functions including SQL code review, performance analysis, query tuning, database application design, physical data modeling, and developer support
    • Proactively monitor databases servers and respond to any alerts

    Works with customers on troubleshooting production issues

    • Provide database support in all phases of SDLC
    • Work with team members to come up with solutions in line with group's standards
    • Participate in 24X7 on call rotation schedule for various production support, database maintenance, housekeeping and installs
    • Interface with Systems Administrators and Capacity Planning groups as and when situation demands
    • Ability to quickly diagnose the problem areas and come up with solutions and/or workarounds
    • Evaluation and recommendation of software products in database management arena
    • Should have strong time management skills with willingness and ability to handle multiple projects/initiatives at the same time
    • Self-motivated with strong team, interpersonal, communication and leadership skills
    • Setup DR and HA strategy and support routine DR testing
    • Write clear, concise, well organized technical documentation to maintain standards and procedures
    • Provide clear, helpful and considerate instructions to end-users

    Qualifications

    Education:

    Minimum 4 year college degree or equivalent work experience

     

    License/Certifications

    Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA)

     

    Experience

    • 2+ years of SQL Cloud administration
    • 7+ years of SQL Server administration and other database technologies
    • In-depth experience with Microsoft Azure and other cloud technologies
    • Knowledge of IaaS, SaaS and PaaS
    • SQL Security Administration – including, cloud security models along with data masking, de-identification and encryption methodologies
    • Data storage and backup technologies
    • Data Availability service option utilizing Cloud services including traditional clustering, replication and 3rd party services
    • Transitioning data from premised base systems to Cloud technologies
